Brightlingsea Harbour

  • Brightlingsea Harbour
  • Brightlingsea, on Brightlingsea Creek, sits at the mouth of the River Colne. It is known for oyster fishing and ship building, but both of those industries have declined to the point where they no longer figure. During the Second World War, the Royal Navy had a base in Brightlingsea called HMS Nemo, and in the 1990s it was the focus of protests against the live export of animals from the harbour for slaughter in Europe.
