  • Fountain in the main outdoor shopping area in Basildon town centre. Created in 1962 by Maurice Lambert RA, it appears in the town crest and the mayor’s chains. It was refurbished in 2009 at a cost of around £33,000. The fountain itself is made of bronze, while the stone that it sits on was brought from the Lake District. It originally took a year to build, at a cost of £4000, and was supposed to symbolise the birth of the new town.
