  • The Millennium Bell Tower sits within St Martin’s Square, slightly set apart from St Martin’s Church. It was opened by Queen Elizabeth II on 12 March 1999 to commemmorate the millennium. It s of neo-gothic design, 85 feet tall, and octagonal in shape. It houses eight bells, of which six were taken from a redundant church in Colchester, some dating back to 1441. Two of the bells were new.
