Clacton United Reformed Church

  • Clacton United Reformed Church
  • The land on which the church is built was bought for £375 in 1885, and the Early English Gothic style church itself designed by local architect Thomas Baker. The foundation stones were laid in 1886 and the church opened for use in June 1887. It was extended just 13 years later to provide more space, a reorganised interior and a hall. However, it closed between 1940 and May 1942 due to reduced attendance as residents were evacuated or sent off to fight in the Second World War.
